Motivation in this design world

To be honest, I have no idea how to find motivation when I could barely muster getting off my couch. It can take me days to look myself in the mirror and say enough Is enough “its time to design”.

Its times like this when Im trying use everything that is instilled in me — determination, courageousness and flat out confidence — to muster up some motivation In me.

But what do you do when your brain wants to shut down and not think about any of your problems, when you cant apply to any more job s— that the thought of being unemployed is physically and mentally torturing you

For me, I have to reach somewhere into a musty well of a mind, feel through the murky, dark water, and eventually find the rope that will pull me up to safety.

So once I find the rope , what do I do when Im too exhausted to climb?
I figured out my survival route, now how will I get myself out of danger?

Here are somethings I learned that help me, that I hope other junior designers and freelance workers can take away.

Trying to focus.

Yeah, so, telling and forcing yourself to focus isn’t very effective. But you need to just do it! Sometimes, I struggle with new beginnings, my mind is blank and I have no idea how to start. But you know what? You tell yourself I got what it takes, let’s buckle down, swallow your pride, let out a few tears and let your ideas flow within you. It only takes one great idea in your mind for the domino effect to start. There you have it, the first step in starting and the rest will follow.

Taking care of yourself first!

For those that have actually been abiding to quarantine regulations and staying at home, it’s become apparent that it’s not as easy as it sounds. Being confined to a limited square footage and having to work where you live has prompted people to change the way they live to cope. I guess where I’m getting with this is that if you’re really not mentally feeling like you’re in a place to be productive don’t force it. Give yourself a day to just chill out and take care of yourself.

Unemployment isn't forever

I know times are trying right now in the job market and the unemployment rate is going up. Every company wants A entry- level role to be filled but hit you with a required 5+ years of experience. All it takes is one person to see you, for who you are and what you’r capable of. Acknowledge the light within you and shine. It Isn't easy, some days it will actually feels impossible, you just need to trust the process.

Since I’ve made this choice, and I am heading to somewhere entirely new, but I am willing to take chances, face any consequences. There is no question gets answered without asking, thinking and hardworking. What really matters is that I should make time for the goal I picked, sticking to it, and getting it done.
